Match Notes

Cronulla had recently signed Cliff Watson from England he had arrived in the country a week earlier this was his first game.

Oscar Danielson dropped out of a 14 man Newtown team.

Tommy Bishop was carried from the field after 30 mins with an Achilles tendon break and was replaced by Barry Andrews with Kevin Hogan moving to 5/8. Bishop was expected to be out for the rest of the season and in hospital for 2 - 3 weeks, Kevin Hogan was appointed stand-in captain-coach with Cliff Watson his assistant.
