Biography

Leeds and Great Britain Test forward came to the Roosters at the instigation of coach Graham Murray after playing for England in the 2000 World Cup competition. Morley quickly adapted to Australian conditions and made his reputation as a hard-hitting defender and a fearless carter of the ball. Although the seasons 2002-04 bought three successive grand final appearances (but only one win, against the Warriors in 2002), his time with the Roosters has not been without its share of controversy. Morley came under notice for his suspect high tackling action, a problem he worked hard on to correct. Returning to the international arena with Great Britain in 2003 (after injury ruled him out of the 2001 Ashes series and the disappointing one-off Test in Australia in 2002), he was sent off in the first minute of the First Test against Australia when he hit Robbie Kearns in a high tackle. Morley took part in the remainder of the Ashes series (won by Australia, 3 Tests to nil) and consecutive Tri-Nations competitions in 2004-05 but his time with the Roosters came to a shuddering halt when he was suspended for seven matches for kneeing Corey Hughes as the C’bury hooker played the ball. Morely represented Great Britain in the 2006 Tri-Nations competition, including the shock 23-12 win against Australia in Sydney, but the Lions did not make the final.

    My favourite player of the super league era, and my favourite player of all time other than Ellery Hanley.These two men made a massive impact on me.I am grateful to them for the joy they give to the rugby league fans of this contry.
