Match Notes
Balmain selectors made a late change in the morning and dropped Bob Smithies to reserve grade and made some positional changes in a 15 man squad. Sid Williams moved to Smithies fullback spot, Terry Parker moved to the wing, Hal Browne to the centre in Alan Fitzgibbons place who had moved to 2nd row in place of Greg Fryer who was the other man dropped from the 15.
Souths lost Cleary & Coote from their team who had both returned from the New Zealand tour with injuries, Kevin Longbottom came into the team at fullback, Eric Simms moved to the centre & Bob Honan moved from centre to the wing, Sait took Cootes place at lock.
Hal Browne again dislocated his shoulder after 30 mins and was replaced by George Ruebner who went to wing with Parker moving to centre. Browne was expected to have another operation and was expected to miss the rest of the season.
