Balmain had been in dispute with the NSWRL for some time about the scheduling of the match as a curtain raiser to the 4th Kangaroos v Wallabies game they believed it should be a headline game played on another day.
However the NSWRL did not back down and Balmain stood by their word and didn't field a team.
