Match Notes
Sean Hampstead was appointed as the referee for this game, but he had to replace Mark Oaten, who was struck down with illness, as the referee for the Melbourne v Northern Eagles game. Kelvin Jeffes was named as the referee of this game. This decision did not sit well with both clubs. The match itself was marred with ugly brawls, one of which spilled over the sideline and into the area where the cheergirls were sitting, one of whom was injured.
Both clubs were fined $25,000 each, 4 players were suspended for a combined 11 weeks while a further 4 more players were put on report for high tackles.
In the 2nd half Monty Betham changed into jersey #21 after his jersey #16 was torn.
