Tough as Nsw north coast Ironbark. Respected by team mates for calmness and resolve under pressure. No nonsense Deft ball playing prop forward adding to his skill set after successful stints with Hull KR and the champion Canterbury Bulldogs teams of mid 1980’s. Following a brief but enjoyable period of exploration with the loose Fairfax coached Sydney Roosters Johnno was to make his mark on team mates establishing the bench marks for those who came after as any early newcastle knight pioneer setting the bar for those who have followed. A toe-poking goal kicking forward admired by all for his sense of fair play and competition.
