Biography

Blacktown junior cemented a first grade wing position with the Panthers as the club sailed into the finals in 2004. Lewis, who scored 18 tries that season, was selected to tour with the Kangaroos after the club’s 18-6 win over the Roosters in the grand final. The 20-year-old was given little opportunity in Australia’s Ashes whitewash (coach Chris Anderson overlooked Lewis for the non-vital Third Test, even to the extent of choosing veteran Darren Smith who was not in the squad) but he produced a mature display in NSW’s State of Origin success in 2004. Injury robbed him of his first grade spot in Penrith’s unsuccessful premiership defence (Lewis shifted to the centres late in the season and had also filled in at five-eighth) and ultimately ruled him out of Tri Nations contention. Injuries, and a shift to centre/five-eighth with the struggling Panthers in 2005-06, have not yet allowed Lewis to come back into rep contention.
