Biography

NSW-born (Sydney) Townsville junior (Brothers) made his first grade debut for the Broncos in 2003. It took Sam Thaiday, a big, mobile, bullocking style of prop, several seasons to cement a first grade position but in 2006 he regularly started games in the back row. That year he represented Queensland in three matches as an interchange player and following Brisbane’s grand final win against Melbourne (in which he played second row) Thaiday made his Test debut in Australia’s 20-15 win over NZ in Melbourne – again from the interchange bench. His only other Test appearance in Australia’s successful Tri-Nations campaign was in Australia’s 23-12 loss to Great Britain in Sydney.

Sam is my favourite player, out of all the teams in the competition. Even though we support our local team - the Dragons, Sam is my pin-up boy, and I am old enough to be his mother. He tackles so well around the legs, gives 100% effort every game, and has a pleasant disposition.
Keep up the good work Sam.

Sam is a player I have admired from his early days with the Broncos. I believe this will be his last season in the NRL and as I am a ve ry old man who might not be alive at seasons end, I would like to wish him all the very best in his retirement years. I wish that all NR L players could be as fair as Sam. I understand he is a good family man,and hope that all of them have a happy future together.

Absolute character on and off the field and one of the toughest players. Loved seeing him jump in whenever there was a blue on hence his reputation of being the third man in.
