Biography

Port Kembla forward came to St George as a 19-year-old in 1982. Walsh played for NSW in 1984 but later returned to captain the fledgling I’warra club in the late 1980s. Advised to retire after injuring two vertebrae in his neck in a match in 1987, the hard-working prop continued to lead by example and was an inspiration to the club's younger players. Clubman of the Year in 1988-89, Walsh led the Steelers to win the club's first trophy - the 1992 pre-season Tooheys Challenge Cup. Walsh had to retire early in the season due to medial ligament damage to his knee.
