In 2019, the QRL confirmed the formation of a new state-wide league to commence from 2020 onwards. Following a stringent application process, 6 existing teams that had been part of the South-East Queensland Division 1 competition were brought in for the inaugural 2020 season (which was unfortunately cut short after just one round due to the COVID-19 pandemic), along with 2 newly formed consortiums to cover regional areas further north (North & Central Queensland).
