Match Notes
This game resulted in the infamous television call by Paul Vautin to "tip all of the [touch judges] into the 'Wollongong Ocean'," after Illawarra's only try was awarded after the referee consulted with the in-goal touch judge despite evidence of knock-ons by Bill Dunn and Ryan Girdler. The resulting protests by Brisbane resulted in Terry Matterson being sent to the sin-bin.
The subsequent conversion by Rod Wishart also appeared to miss to the left in television replays.
