Scott Sattler

G’Coast junior, the son of John Sattler, found a home with the Panthers in 1999 after a nomadic career. Scott Sattler’s phenomenal work rate and his ability to lead by example earned him the club’s ‘Player of the Year’ award in 2001 – the year the Panthers finished last. In 2003 he earned his only rep honour with a brief foray into State of Origin football as an interchange player. Although forced to leave the Panthers at the end of 2003 when the club baulked at signing the veteran lock/five-eighth to a two-year contract, his professionalism as Penrith charged into the play-offs was never in doubt. In the grand final against the Roosters Sattler pulled off arguably the greatest tackle ever seen in a premiership decider when he cut down opposing winger Todd Byrne and literally turned the tide of the match. Linking with the W’Tigers in 2004, he captained the club for much of the year before announcing his retirement due to chronic knee pain. Sattler has since taken on roles as a commentator with FoxSports and development officer with the newly-promoted G’Coast Titans.
