Biography

Junee product was recommended to the Balmain club by his 1979 Yanco captain-coach Keith Outten. Hemsley, who had already represented Riverina against Great Britain in 1979, also extended his club career into France (Le Pontet, 1982-83) and England (Wigan 1983-84). In 1984 he became the first Balmain player to return to England to take his place in a Wembley Cup final. Hemsley was fearless in his role as a ball-running forward with the Tigers and was a club favourite with his long hair and beard.

I had the pleasure to meet Kerry Hemsley at Leichardt oval at Balmains very last home game, he went out of his way to show my brother inlaw and myself around the old grandstand and get a look at some of the old photos on the wall in the old dressing shed. I enjoyed listening to some of his stories of his playing days at that great old club, it's was a shame to see Balmain go. Rugby league moves on but geez tradition is what makes the game great COME BACK BALMAIN!
