I remember admiring Dennis Preston when I was a youngster. Loved him and St George. Still do these days.

Dennis Preston had a unique goal kicking style and I am amazed it has not made League Highlight reels over the years, In my 66 years I have never seen it equalled by any other goal kicker. Dennis used to place the ball vertically when kicking for goal & somehow he managed to make it spin vertically through the air, which is the only explanation for the amazing feat achieved not once but twice, once at Jubilee oval, I can not recall which other ground, when taking a place kick for goal the ball hit the right upright then flew directly across to hit the left upright & bounced into the in goal zone for 2 points...I have always thought that doing this twice at different games was truely remarkable & worthy of a mention in the anals of rugby league history. Remarkably, Dennis finished his League career having scorred 534 points (some for Balmain in his last year) - never scoring a field goal.

I remember a game against the Rabbits in 1968 at the SCG. He made a break up the middle and kept turning from side to side turning Eric Simms around and around.. He played so well that year at fullback, with Langlands in the centre position
