Biography

St Joseph's College Hunter’s Hill product, a giant-striding winger, played for NSW in 1959 and was the season's leading point-scorer in 1960-61. Landers kicked three goals in Easts' 31-6 grand final loss to St George in 1960 and later went on to play in England with Leeds. On his return, he signed with Second Division side Penrith which was gearing up for promotion to the NSWRL. Landers was one of the Panthers' most consistent match-winners in their early years; his 158 points (6t, 70g) in 1969 was a club record which stood until broken by Greg Alexander. Landers passed away in 1996 after a short illness, aged 56.

Your Say

Anonymous says: Bob was a very good winger ,Ican remember the day we played at North Sydney oval they had put him into the scums thgrond was shocking it had been pouring he and Elaine were very good friends of ours ,Elaine and I were sitting together Elaine turned to me and ask me,Where is Bobby? pointed him out to her there he is covered in mud ,on the wing he always looked so clean. We were very sad when he passed away. (13/02/2012)

Chris says: Remember watching ,, lollie legs landers , as my dad nick named him, at Penrith park when I was 12 years old. What a dashing winger. (04/10/2016)

Chris Jupp says: I first met Bob in 1970 after moving from Blakehurst to Penrith. He was selling new Ford cars for Ross Sinclair, from the very first time we met he was easy going and ended up being good friends with my in-laws and my wife he sold us two new Fords within a couple of years. Bob was very honest with advice and in his business dealings with a lot of my friends who all spoke very highly of him over a decade of good friendship with him it was a terrible shock to my family and friends who got to know him through the motor trade. When we heard he passed away we were totally staggered because we all knew him as the big guy who always was a bloody good friend. Sadly missed by Chris Yvonne & friends
RIP Bob it was a privilege to have known you mate. (14/08/2019)
