Biography

Sturdy Balmain prop played in the club's premiership wins in 1944, 1946-47 as well as narrow losses in 1945 (to Easts) and 1948 (to Wests). Spencer played for NSW in 1945-46 and was a fine clubman with the Tigers. The father of 1969 State rep Jack Spencer Jnr, the father-son combination also produced the following interesting statistic: the only premierships Balmain won in the club’s postwar history were with the name 'Spencer' in the forward pack.
