Darrell Trindall

Tenacious Souths junior ‘Tricky’ Trindall played for the Rabbitohs during the disappointing 1990s but while the club’s established players left for greener pastures the little halfback stayed to captain the club in 1997-98. Trindall’s final year with Souths before the club was controversially excluded from the NRL was marred by a 7 week suspension for a high tackle on a mismatched opponent – giant Newcastle forward Peter Shiels. Moving to England Trindall cut a controversial figure - playing just two matches for St Helens in 2000 before returning to Australia to play with the Bulldogs. Despite a dispute with Bulldogs’ captain Darren Britt Trindall formed an effective halfback partnership with Braith Anasta in 2001 as the club charged into the semi-finals. Trindall found himself out of favour with the Bulldogs in the early part of 2002 and after two years in the rugby league wilderness attempted to make a comeback, at age 32, with Souths’ premier league team in 2005.
