Biography

Easts junior was graded by the club in 1943 but served in WWII and played sporadically for the Armed Services between 1944 and 1946. Hopkins signed with C’bury in 1947 and was chosen for NSW but pulled out of the team because of injury. The following year he became the first C’bury player to gain a place on a Kangaroo Tour - Hopkins' nippiness and sharp passing clinched the City Firsts halfback position and his two matches for NSW were a prelude to eventual selection. He went on to play in 13 minor matches on tour (but no Tests) and scored 23pts (1t, 10g).
