Biography

Paul Dunn came into Easts' President's Cup team from Bathurst in 1983 but joined C’bury as part of the Bulldogs' build-up to defend its premiership in 1986. The tall prop played in all 27 matches that year, including the historic 4-2 grand final loss to P’matta, and was selected on the 1986 Kangaroo Tour. Dunn made his Test debut as a second rower in the one-off Test against Papua New Guinea and a dislocated elbow injury to Steve Roach resulted in Dunn's selection in the final two Tests against Great Britain. He was man of the match in Australia's Third Test win and went on to play against France in two further Tests. Dunn made his State of Origin debut as a reserve in the second match in 1988 and was a standout performer in Cantebury's grand final win over Balmain, which resulted in his winning the Clive Churchill Medal. In 1991 he followed former coach Phil Gould to Penrith and his experience was seen to good effect in the Panthers' grand final success that year. The following year, though, was personally disappointing and he signed with battlers P’matta in 1993. The introduction of the interchange rule prolonged Dunn’s career for one more season – ironically, with Easts, where it all started 14 years before. Appointed the Chief Executive of the reinstituted Souths club Dunn was sacked after the club’s disappointing 2002 season.
