Biography

Champion winger of his era was a 1907 rebel who played against the NZ ‘All Golds’. A pioneer member of the Easts club Dan Frawley toured with the first Kangaroos in 1908-09. He appeared in 22 matches on tour, including the final two Tests against England, and was acclaimed as the '100 yards champion' of the squad. He again represented Australia against NZ in 1909 before linking with English club Warrington in the 1909-10 season. Returning to Australia he ‘guested’ for England on the 1910 Lions tour in a match against Newcastle. Frawley was almost ruled ineligible to play on his second Kangaroo tour in 1911-12 because of a contractual dispute with Warrington, which still wanted his services. Frawley missed the First Test because of the dispute but was on the flank in the final two Tests when the 'Australasian' team won the Ashes for the first time. He scored 18 tries in 12 matches on tour and after playing for NSW in the ensuing years (including two tours of NZ in 1912-13) and appeared in two more Tests when the Englishmen toured in 1914. Frawley's last appearance for his country was in the famous ‘Rorke's Drift’ Test won by England in the Ashes series decider at the SCG.
