Biography

Brisbane Valleys five-eighth, originally from Toowoomba, represented Queensland in 1977 and again in 1979. In the third match of the 1979 interstate series, Smith scored a record 4 tries in Queensland’s 35-20 loss. He then moved to Norths in 1980 where he had the distinction of being chosen as one of seven NSW-based players in Queensland’s inaugural State of Origin team. Smith's Sydney career stalled and he moved to Canberra in 1982 for its debut season. He was later a Queensland State of Origin selector during the 1990s.

    Alan is now QLD SOO Selector and Australian selector- scored 4 tries at Leichardt Oval in a game not listed in hs stats.

    Does anyone know if Alan Smith came to play in UK in mid-1970s... we have an Australian called Alan Smith who played at Wakefield in 1975 on loan from Bramley
