Legendary English clubman appeared in over 500 matches for Widnes during 1969-84. An 8 Test veteran, Hughes was the five-eighth in the Widnes team that beat the 1978 Kangaroos 11-10 (the last English club side to beat the World Champions) and toured with the Lions in 1979 and

    eric hughes was a quality player for his club and country his speed allowed him to play in a number of positions and be just as effective a versitile player from a rugbyleague fan of yesteryear
