Biography
Younger brother of the immortal Dally Messenger was a member of the Easts' teams that won premierships in 1912-13 (with his brother as captain). At rep level, Wally Messenger appeared in only one match for NSW against Queensland (1913) before playing for the Blues against the visiting England team the following year. He then represented Australia in the final two Tests of the 1914 Ashes series against England. A fine goal-kicker, he landed three goals in Australia’s 12-7 win in the Second Test and scored one of Australia's two tries against a team reduced to ten men in the Lions’ famous ‘Rorke’s Drift’ 14-6 victory in the deciding Test of the series.
