Biography

Mobile second row forward, the son of former St George player Greg Cross, captained the Steelers as a 20-year-old to a narrow 11-10 loss to Great Britain in 1992. The Port Kembla product lived up to that early promise when he was named as Steelers’ captain in the absence of Bob Lindner while on Test duty in NZ in 1993. The ensuing seasons regularly saw Cross as one of the club's best players but a planned move to Super League club Penrith in 1997 was blocked because of his ARL loyalty contract. Cross finally joined the Panthers in 1998 and the hard-working back-rower was integral to the club’s success in the early part of the 1999 season and when the club qualified for the semi-finals in 2000. He returned ‘home’ and played his final season with the merged St George I’warra club in 2003.
