Dick McDermott says: Jack lennox was my great uncle, a school teacher and in his thirties he enlisted in the 2/15th field atillery regiment an was sent to Malaya in 1941. Captured with the rest of the 8th Division at the fall of Singapore, he was sent to the Burma end of the Burma Thailand railway wher he often assisted comrades by taking their work loads when they were sick. As an ex Souths and Saints player he was in demand to talk League in the camps. He eventually contracted Palegra and malnutrition and died in the Thanbuyazat POW hospital in 1943. jack is buried in the Thanbuyazat war cemetry in Burma. (26/08/2012)
Dick McDermott says: Jack was my great uncle. A school teacher Jack played for both Saints and Souths. He enlisted in WWII, as a gunner in the 2/15th Field Regiment and was captured at the fall of Singapore. Jack worked as a POW on the infamous Burma Railway where he passed away from malnutrition and cerebral malaria in 1943. Jack is buried in the Thanbuzayat War cemetery in Burma. Jack’s commanding officer said of him that he was a big man always out for helping his mates who were less able to carry out the work on the line. (03/10/2013)
