Biography

Injury dictated that League fans never saw the best of Norths’ strapping centre Arch Crippin but the 1936 season gave an indication what might have been. The Forbes-born lad, who was educated at St Joseph’s College Hunter’s Hill, was chosen out of position on the wing for Australia in the Test series against England after starring for NSW in his first season in grade. Crippin's inexperience was fully exploited by the Englishmen in the deciding Test of the series and sadly, a recurring shoulder dislocation forced his premature retirement in 1937. After an unsuccessful return in 1939, Crippin served in the Army in New Guinea during the war. He went on to play cricket for Souths Juniors until he was 65 and is the father of former Souths lower grade player and NSW cricketer Ron Crippin.

Additional Notes

Served as a Lieutenant of the 35th Infantry Battalion during World War II. He fought predominantly in New Guinea.
