Biography

St George forward, originally from Tumbulgum, came to the club from Lismore in 1933. A Country rep in 1927, Rutherford played for NSW in his first season in Sydney and scored a sensational try after the bell in the semi-final against Easts to put St George into the final. The scores were locked 10-all before the second row forward scored but St George lost the final against Newtown the following week. Rutherford went on to captain the club on the tour of the NZ later that year.
