Star centre for the Kiwis in the 1960s, viewed by New Zealanders in a parallel light to how Australian fans saw Reg Gasnier, who he frequently opposed in test matches. 1995 Legend of League choice, one of Bailey's game traits was to pretend to 'offer' the ball to opposing players as they moved in to tackle him, only to retract it and quickly step away from them in the hope that they were momentarily caught off guard by this unorthodox ploy.

Was doing stuff with the ball 20 years before wally Lewis ever played 1st grade a genius well ahead of his time a true rugby league legend who was unfortunately treated like crapp by some so called administraters in nz rugby league l had the honour of meeting him in 1968 when l was 12 with my father who knew roger personally the thing l remember most about it was that he spoke to me about my football as l was playing in the same position as he was at Centre a time that l will never forget

    Definitely the prince of centres.
A player well ahead of his time.
    His long pass was gold.
And the way he would dummy players on the run was magic.
Roger Bailey, my favourite player. EVER.

I agree wholeheartedly with the other contributors comments about Roger. Undoubtedly a great and talented footballer who would unquestionably, in my opinion, have thrived in either rugby code , in any era. A well deserved and thoughtful selection for NZ rugby team of the 20th century.
