Biography

Brisbane Norths hooker played for Queensland against NSW and Great Britain in 1977 before gaining selection in Australia's World Cup team against NZ. The selectors had originally chosen C’bury’s George Peponis and omitted captain Arthur Beetson but when ARL President Kevin Humphreys refused to ratify the side, Beetson was reinstated with the Queensland selectors selecting Geiger at Peponis’ expense. Geiger made a short-lived foray into the Sydney premiership with Penrith in 1979 but after being replaced by local junior Steve Martin, he saw out the season in reserve grade before returning to Brisbane.

    Nick Geiger played for the Norths Devils from 1971 - 1977, and was only kept from representing Queensland and Australia by one Johnny Lang, who played for Easts Tigers at the time. Geiger eventually gained his chance in 1977, representing QLD and Australia that year.

    Nick played for Northern Suburbs, I coached him in 1969 in the under 17 side, the hooker did not play and Nick volunteered to take his place and never looked back playing many A grade games for Norths before going to Penrith

    Nick was our hooker at school. Loved packing in the scrum with him. He was a very fast striker of the ball.

    Played for Nambour sometime after leaving Penrith.
