Biography

Souths junior made his first grade debut in 1950 - the year the Rabbitohs won the premiership for the first time in 18 years. The young forward did not play in the final that year but made up for it in 1951. Bryan Orrock played for Sydney Colts against France in 1952 but was sent off in Souths’ loss to Wests in the grand final that year. Signing with St George in 1953 after marrying a local girl and moving into the district, he was later a key member of the Saints team that won the first of eleven consecutive premierships in 1956. Selected on the 1956-57 Kangaroo Tour (Orrock had played alongside both tour hookers Kearney and Hammerton at club level) he made Test appearances against Great Britain and France. The following year, in a courageous display in the 1957 grand final against Manly, Orrock elected to stay on the field with the help of pain-killers after suffering a dislocated shoulder.
