Biography

Newtown junior and a solid back row forward with the club in the late 1940s moved to Bundaberg (Brothers) in 1951. After representing Queensland in that year Drew was selected in two Tests against France. Drew played for Ipswich the following year and captain-coached the Queensland centre in the Bulimba Cup competition in 1954. He toured NZ with the Australian team in 1953 and made his final Test appearance in Australia's 18-16 Third Test win in Auckland. After leaving Ipswich, Drew played for Lismore, Gosford and Lakes United in the Newcastle competition.

    Bernie Drew was captain-coach of Proserpine in North Queensland during the 1949 season.
