Biography

Brilliant Easts lock during the club's ‘golden era’ in the 1930s started his career in Newcastle after playing Australian Rules football in South Australia. Norval played in Easts’ final victories in 1935-36 before showing his versatility on the 1937-38 Kangaroo Tour. Incredibly, he made his Test debut on the wing in the Third Test against England before playing in the first two Tests staged in France. Norval took his place in Easts’ ‘international’ pack (Stehr, Pearce and Pierce) and played in one more premiership success in 1940. He represented NSW between 1938-41 but did not play in another Test because of the advent of World War II.

Andy Norval was a humble and gifted player of the 1930s who enjoyed the game and was a Eastern Suburbs club player always. Andy had great admiration for his team mates.
He played the game at all levels and retired without ever playing in lower grades.
He was a wonderful husband and father and passed away in 1999.
