He taught me in year 6 at Belmore North Primary and was my coach.

He was a man of principal who always told us to respect each other and our opponents.

I remember we were playing Wiley Park Public School at Parry Park and losing 20-0 at half time. Mr Smith told us to pack our stuff because we were disgracing the school with our performance. We started pleading with him, not to call off the 2nd half and that we were going to try harder. We stayed on losing 20-18 at the end but I remember him telling us that he was prouder for us for fighting back despite losing, than bashing Belmore South Primary 30-0 the week before. That still sticks with me.
