Biography
Former NZ RU forward first toured Australia with his national side in 1897 although a Test match was not played. Hardcastle then immigrated to Australia to play Rugby for Glebe, and after representing NSW in 1899, made his RU Test debut for his adopted country against England. He got his chance to play his former countrymen in 1903 in the first RU Test played against the Kiwis. In 1908, Hardcastle switched codes to play in Ipswich in the first year of the professional game and represented Queensland against NSW and visiting Maoris and NZ teams before being chosen in two Tests against NZ in this country's first domestic Test series. The Queensland prop was selected to tour with the pioneer Kangaroos but played in just six matches in England. Hardcastle joined Sydney club Glebe in 1909.
