I was a classmate of John. He was the best 5/8 never to play for Australia.. He would play all over the Queensland opponent when injury prevented his selection.in the Australian Team On completing his University Degree he was sent to the country. ending his football career. He is 90 now.

93 this April. I don't know about 'ending his career', but that's where it started, in Warren, NSW......he wasn't there very long, as a teacher. Next thing we know his name appears in a South's team !

Mr Dougherty was my school football coach at Jesmond HS in years 11 and 12. He was a great coach and people person. I have just found out that he passed away last September. I am sorry I never got to see him in his latter years. However he attended our school reunion in 1992, so we caught up then. My sympathies to John's family. What a gentleman!
