Additional Notes
From Rugby League Week 4/3/1978 - Dave Allison - he had so much potential Rugby League this week mourned the loss of talented young Canterbury hooker Dave Allison. Allison was tragically killed at work last Wednesday when the arm of a circuit breaker hit him on the head. The accident struck Dave down at 21 as a promising League career opened up before him. Canterbury Secretary Peter Moore paid the hooker a great tribute when he said he had the talent to represent Australia. Anyone who saw Allison play would readily agree with Mr Moore. Although he was the regular reserve grade hooker at Canterbury, Allison often filled in for the Bulldogs' NSW rake George Peponis. Each time he did he received glowing reports. Indeed, he even made two Teams of the Week in RLW after being called up to replace Peponis. This season several Sydney clubs tried to lure Allison away but he scorned the offers of a permanent first grade berth to stay with Canterbury. Apart from being a prolific ball-winner Allison was a tenacious tackler and certainly the fastest No. 12 in the game. Peponis this week referred to Allison as "one of the nicest blokes you could hope to meet". "He was as great a footballer as he was a bloke and I never heard a bad word spoken about him" Peponis said. "Many Sydney clubs would have given their right arm to have him as their regular first grade hooker." Canterbury Coach Ted Glossop said Allison was a very dedicated player. "He was training right through the off-season and was geared for a great season." Glossop said. Rugby League Week offers its sincere condolences to Dave's family and to his fiancée, Gay Dawson.

Your Say

Dave played his junior footy with St. George Dragons and he could have been a better player than George Peponis... Dave used to train with another young hooker by the name of Graham Thompson from his junior club and I think he was a star in the dogs winning Flegg side and played state as well .. He was a tough guy like Dave Allison his mentor.
