Biography

Originally from Armidale, Archer represented Country Seconds in 1970 before signing with Cronulla. Starting his career in the centres, he partnered Steve Rogers in the Sharks’ historic appearance in the 1973 grand final. Later moving to the second row, Archer lost none of his attacking skills. An elbow injury sidelined him for most of the 1978 season but he returned late in the season to replace the suspended Greg Pierce, playing in the club’s grand final draw and loss in the replay against Manly.

    I worked with Eric at Hunter Valley No 1 Mine from 82 to 98 top bloke hard as nails Go the sharks tonight 2016.

    I remember him coming in as a second rower in 1979 to replace my favourite player Greg Pierce for the first 11 rounds of the season. It upset me as I wanted Pierce back to make up our greatest forward pack ever. Sorensen Pierce Kneen Sorensen McMartin Khan. But he did play well.
