Biography

Hooker/prop forward played in St George's reserve grade grand final loss in 1971 before replacing Grahame Bowen in the first grade decider against Souths. Cox, who was also a non-playing reserve in the club's grand final loss to Easts in 1975, later played for Waratah-Mayfield in the Newcastle competition.

    allways enjoyed watching russell play. considering he was not big for a front rower he gave it all he had and was all heart.

    not the biggest prop in the comp but held his own and was always giving his best.

    he could have played for australia but size was against him so said an abc commentator broadcasting a game that russell was playing in back in his day.

    I only recall Russell Cox playing for the Dragons in the second row or lock. I believe he would have been too light for front row. Am I wrong?

    russell played prop in the 1971 grand final against souths and was opposed to john sattler,his debut in first grade ,just turned 20 and weighed 70 kilos. he went to play quite a few games as prop there after in first grade for st george.
