Playing Career

Biography

Grafton product, a NSW Schoolboy rep, came to St George as an 18-year-old in 1970. Carr was on the flank when the Dragons went down to Souths, 16-10, in the 1971 grand final. Following his retirement as a player, he became Chief Executive of St George in 1990. Co-manager of the victorious NSW State of origin sides in 1993-94, he went away to England and France in that capacity with the Kangaroos in 1994 (thus, in one way, keeping intact St George's record of having a representative on every Kangaroo Tour since the club's inception). Carr was one of the ARL's staunchest supporters during the code's split with Super League in the early part of 1995 and left St George to work with the ARL soon after. In 2000, he was appointed Chief Executive of the ARL and General Manager of the NSWRL in 2003.
