Robin Gair from what I have heard from relatives and people who followed the game in those days, and from what I have read in the news of the day by journalist such as Ernie Christensen and Peter Frilingos, that he was a dynamic player who's career came to an untimely end due to injury. It was said that he was the best half-back in the Sydney competition at the time.
He would have represented Australia if injury had not cut his career short.

I agree with Ian's comments regarding Robin Gair as a footballer with Parramatta in the early 60's. He was very fast, for a little bloke, a good tackler and could change the game in seconds. I saw him demolish North Sydney at North Sydney oval one cold Saturday afternoon, I was about 12 or 13.
I also remember Poppa Clay hit him with a high shot at Jubilee oval which took him out of the game.

    bio.
Robin Gair burst on the First Grade Rugby League scene in 1959 as an 18 year old. He came from the Balmain district where he played in the Presidents cup competition in 1958.
After 4 games in second grade Robin was called into first grade by the coach Jack Rayner. He immediately impressed with his speed and defence.
He played in the Possibles V the Probables trial game for the forthcoming tour of England and France by the Kangaroos. He missed selection despite being considered the best half back in the Sydney competition at that time.
He was selected in the Sydney Seconds team against Country in 1961.
Recurring shoulder and knee problems dogged his career and he retired early as a result.
He was transferred to Perth with his job and while there Captained Coached the South Perth RL team for two years winning the Challenge cup in his first year. His record of scoring 16 tries in one season as a half back still stands.

I am his grandson, and I am very proud of his record. I play rugby league as well and I wish I had his speed. Despite the fact that he shed blood, sweat and tears on the old Cumberland oval. My brother and sisters and I go for the bulldogs because of our mum. My Dad is not very happy about that because he loves the Eels but they are our second team. Go Grandad and go the Eels

I have a photo of Robin Gair playing for Parramatta against Western Australia at Belmont Oval Perth WA in 1961. It is on the History of Western Australia Rugby League History site and so is the team list for that game.
