Match Report
Wales needed a good turn-out against Scotland a week later in Glasgow to save their tournament and they didn‟t get it, losing 36-16 in a performance Griffiths described as his worst as Wales coach. Lee Briers, Neil Cowie and Martin Pearson scored tries with Briers kicking two goals. Ireland went on to beat Scotland 31-10 to win the tournament in a sad end to the decade for Wales in international rugby league. The World Cup would open the 21st century and this had to be a success in all quarters for rugby league to survive at professional level in Wales.
