Biography

English-born Tom McCabe immigrated to Australia at the turn of the century but returned to play League in England prior to the formation of the professional code in this country. Returning to Australia in 1908, he lectured and coached players in the rules of 'Northern Union' before joining Glebe. McCabe represented NSW in that pioneer year before playing in the First Test against NZ and is credited with scoring the first Test try for Australia. At the end of the year he toured with the 1908-09 Kangaroos, appearing in the Second Test as well as 19 other matches, but remained in England to play for Oldham after the tour.
