Biography

Versatile South African RU back joined Wakefield Trinity in 1960 and was a winger in the club's Wembley Cup Final match in 1963. Greenwood toured Australia with South Africa in 1963, playing five-eighth in both Tests and scoring two tries in the 54-21 loss in Sydney. He then linked with countryman Fred Griffiths at Norths and represented Other Nationalities in 1964. In 1968 he took over as captain-coach but the season was a disaster and Norths took the radical step of asking high profile English coach Roy Francis to take over as 'guest' coach for a short period. The signing of Francis in 1969 saw Greenwood move to C’bury where he was a lock in his latter career. Col Greenwood passed away in October 1998 after returning to South Africa to live.
