Biography

Champion Great Britain five-eighth/halfback brought his wealth of experience to Cronulla during the 1976 season - the fourth of six visits he made to Australia during the 1970s. Millward is regarded as the spearhead of the Lions' last Ashes success against Australia (1970). After missing Great Britain's First Test thrashing in Brisbane, he scored 20pts (2t, 6g, 1fg) in the 28-7 Second Test win at the SCG. In the deciding Third Test of the series (the only Ashes series played in this country under the four-tackle rule) Millward scored the winning try that secured Great Britain the Ashes. Later that year the former Castleford junior broke his leg playing for Hull KR and missed the World Cup final, which Australia won. The same fate befell him in 1972 and he made his international comeback as a reserve in the Third Test against the Kangaroos the following year. During the 1974 Lions Tour he was chosen in the unfamiliar role of winger in the Second Test (which Great Britain won) and he was back again the following year as part of England's unsuccessful World Series campaign. Millward was a hit with the John Raper-coached Cronulla team battling for class players in 1976. The next year he returned to Australia for the World Cup and made his last overseas trip with the 1979 Lions squad that failed to win a Test in Australia. The final highlight in a memorable career was a win with Castleford in the 1980 Wembley Cup final.

Seems a bit of your information on Roger Millward is wrong. Roger actually won the 1980 Challenge Cup with Hull Kingston Rovers against our main rivals Hull FC.

Hull KR's favourite son was arguably the best British rugby league player to play in the Australian RL during the 1970s.

Why is there no mention of his Hull KR career here?
