Biography

20-year-old Easts fullback was considered a surprise selection on the 1948-49 Kangaroo Tour despite having represented NSW against NZ that year. Bulgin deputised for Clive Churchill on the tour, playing in 16 minor club matches, but then joined Western NSW Country team Bourke on his return to Australia. A policeman by trade, Bulgin toured NZ with the Australian team in 1949 before linking with Easts again where he played in 7 matches late in the season. He continued his Sydney grade career with C’bury and was captain-coach of the club in 1951. Bulgin later pursued a successful career as an amateur golfer in Australia, South Africa, Europe and Canada. In 1959 he was runner-up to Kel Nagle in the Australian Open.
