Biography

Veteran Souths forward was graded by the club in 1921 and was unlucky not have toured with the 1929-30 Kangaroos. Watson, who played in six premiership-winning seasons with the Rabbitohs (1925-29 & 1931), was a try-scorer in the 11-5 win over University in the 1926 final. Despite captaining the club during the 1931 season he did not play in the grand final that year. Watson represented NSW in two matches in 1929 and later coached Souths in 1935-36 and 1947-49. During a long administrative career, Watson was an Australian selector (1958-60), a vice-president of the NSWRL (1958-60 & 1963) and a member of the NSW Judiciary during the late 1960 and early 1970s.
