Biography

Sydney-born halfback played in Dubbo as a junior before being graded by Souths in 1983. Linnane shifted to St George the following year and was the season's top try-scorer in 1985 (16t), the year Saints went down to C’bury in the grand final. The 'Dally M' Rookie of the Year in 1985, Linnane was a tough competitor with a good kicking game but his latter career was overshadowed by a long suspension in 1987 and his sacking from the Dragons as a disciplinary action in 1990. After a season with Newcastle he successfully took over as captain-coach of Kurri Kurri. In 2000 he was coach of Rochdale in England but moved to Halifax in 2001.

Kurri kurri legend, three in a row by same captain coach has never happened and probably never will.

  • Edward Kay

A really tough, durable competitive player with a very good kicking game. Under-rated talented individual who was a joy to watch. St. John's champion at Dubbo and a bulldogs legend at Kurri Kurri. A great bloke as well. All the best Gino, thanks for many great memories.
