John was a great bloke. His mum and dad, Kevin and Hazel Hayes, lived across the road from us in Catherine Street. I always called them Uncle Kevin and Aunty Hazel.Mum and Dad were close friends with them.

John now lives in Collaroy, a few streets down from me. Over the last 10 years I have enjoyed his company at the Collaroy Beach club where I have always appreciated his rugby league yarns and knowledge. He is always willing to chat and a friendly man to all who know him there.
