Served in WWI. He lost his arm during battle at Pozieres. Upon returning home. He was honoured by the Brisbane Rugby League in 1936, when the match between Wests and Valleys was named the 'Quinlan Cup' and on that day, the one-armed Quinlan was referee - his final game as a match official. - Thanks to Redcap's BRL website for this information (www.redcapsbrl.org)
