Roy Westaway was my Mother,s brother.
He was a member of the 2/5TH INDEPENDENT COMPANY(Commandoes) the famous Double Blacks and fought in New Guinea in 1942 in the Wau,Lae, Salamau Campaigns, and also for periods behind enemy Lines.
Among the Pallbearers at his Funeral in Brisbane in 1976 were his great friends Bill McLean ,the former Wallaby Captain, and also a Commando in New Guinea and Duncan Hall the Great Australian Rugby League Prop whom Roy was instrumental in bringing down from Rockhampton to join Valleys Club where Roy was premiership winning Captain.
